You are 1 year old today! WOW! I can’t even begin to describe how much joy you have given us this first year. From your first smile to your amazing dance moves, I have never loved someone so much. Lately you’ve been singing to the radio (you’ve always gotten mad if we aren’t playing music in the car) but now you wave your arms around and sing too. Also, as you fall asleep at night you smile with your eyes closed and open your mouth to give me a kiss. And if I don’t lean down you wrap both tiny arms around my neck and pull up to my face. You did it about 10 times last night before you finally fell asleep. You have such a BIG personality for such a tiny little person. I hope you keep that wrinkle nose smile forever and always wake your dad up with a “HEY! DAD!” And I hope you continue to wave to strangers and say “wooowww” at everything you see.
One of your gifts we gave you at your birthday party this past weekend was a little book I wrote you.
And it went like this…
It has been quite the first year, Annalise. I wonder what you will be when you grow up.
You could be a farmer, on your John Deere you will ride.
You’ll never fail with your great-grandparents as your guide.
Perhaps you will be a rock star and rock out on the stage.
Daddy has taught you well, how to strum, jam and rage.
An astronaut! Yes, an astronaut is what you’ll be!
You’ll orbit around the Earth and its seven stormy seas.
You could fight fires like your brave Uncle Brad.
And save lives, make a difference, oh wouldn’t that be rad?!
Oh, my my! What a beauty that I see.
Are you a princess just like mommy? Yes, that is what you’ll be!
Taking care of business, answering phones and checking your mail.
Are you destined to run the world? Of course, you cannot fail!
Who will breeze through college? YOU! Yes, you will.
Now will it be Purdue or Butler? Mom or dad’s shoes you will fill.
Keeping the streets safe as a cop day and night.
Just like your grandpa and grandma did, standing up for what is right!
Patty cake, patty cake is your favorite song.
Feeding hungry tummies, you just can’t go wrong!
But most of all, what I want you to be…
Is the hap-happiest girl I ever did see.
Happy 1st birthday, Annalise! Love, Mom & Dad
